Lionel Messi Agrees to Buy Eldense: Argentine Star Set to Become Owner of Spanish Second-Tier Club

Lionel Messi is set to take another major step into football ownership after reaching an agreement in principle to acquire Spanish second-tier club CD Eldense.

The Argentine superstar is close to purchasing 100% of the shares currently held by Colombian investment group TH Soluciones Group S.A.S., which is Eldense's majority shareholder. The deal was confirmed by the club on Wednesday, although several legal and regulatory steps still need to be completed before the takeover becomes official.

Messi set to become sole owner

According to reports from Spain, Messi's agreement would see him acquire the entire shareholding of Eldense without outside partners.

The development was also welcomed by the mayor of Elda, Rubén Alfaro, who confirmed that Messi's representatives had reached an agreement in principle to purchase the club.

The final completion of the transaction is still subject to legal and contractual procedures, including due diligence and approval from Spain's High Council for Sports (CSD). Eldense has not announced a definitive date for the completion of the takeover.

Messi's growing football ownership portfolio

The potential Eldense takeover would not be Messi's first investment in Spanish football.

Earlier in 2026, the 39-year-old acquired UE Cornellà, a club competing in the lower levels of the Spanish football pyramid. The Eldense deal would therefore give Messi control of a club competing much higher up the Spanish system.

Messi is also expected to receive a stake in Inter Miami after his playing contract comes to an end, further highlighting his plans to remain involved in football beyond his playing career.
