Champions League Round-Up: Man United and Bayern Win Big as Roma and PSV Are Held
The first matchday of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League came to an end on Thursday night with six more matches producing plenty of goals and drama across Europe.
Manchester United and Bayern Munich were the biggest winners of the evening, both recording comfortable 4–0 victories. Como also enjoyed a memorable Champions League debut by beating RB Leipzig 3–1, while PSV Eindhoven, Roma and Lens were forced to settle for draws.
With Thursday's matches complete, all 36 teams have now played their opening game of the new league phase.
Manchester United 4–0 Sabah
Manchester United marked their return to Champions League football with a dominant 4–0 victory over Sabah at Old Trafford.
Matheus Cunha opened the scoring in the 28th minute before Bruno Fernandes doubled United's advantage shortly before half-time.
Benjamin Šeško then made it 3–0 just before the interval, giving Michael Carrick's side complete control of the game.
Lisandro Martínez completed the scoring in the second half as United comfortably secured all three points and a clean sheet.

Bayern Munich 4–0 Bodø/Glimt
Bayern Munich also produced an emphatic performance, defeating Bodø/Glimt 4–0 at the Allianz Arena.
After a goalless first half, Jamal Musiala broke the deadlock shortly after the restart.
Harry Kane then doubled Bayern's lead before Alphonso Davies made it 3–0.
Michael Olise completed the rout with Bayern's fourth goal, giving Vincent Kompany's team an impressive opening-night victory.

Como 3–1 RB Leipzig
One of the night's biggest surprises came in Italy as Como defeated RB Leipzig 3–1 in their first-ever Champions League appearance.
Martin Baturina gave Como the lead in the 15th minute before Anastasios Douvikas doubled the advantage before half-time.
Assane Diao then added a third shortly after the break.
RB Leipzig pulled one goal back through Andrija Maksimović, but Como held on to claim a historic three points.

PSV Eindhoven 1–1 Shakhtar Donetsk
PSV Eindhoven were held to a 1–1 draw by Shakhtar Donetsk in the Netherlands.
Shakhtar took the lead through Gleiker Mendoza before PSV responded after half-time.
Sergiño Dest scored shortly after the interval to bring the Dutch side level.
Neither team could find a winner, meaning both sides begin their league-phase campaign with one point.
Final score: PSV Eindhoven 1–1 Shakhtar Donetsk
Fenerbahçe 1–1 Roma
Roma also had to settle for a point after drawing 1–1 with Fenerbahçe in Istanbul.
Bryan Cristante put Roma ahead in the first half, scoring his first Champions League goal after being set up by Donyell Malen.
Fenerbahçe responded early in the second half when Archie Brown finished a pass from Mason Greenwood.
Roma thought they had a chance to regain the lead after a penalty incident, but VAR overturned the decision. Fenerbahçe later came close to winning when Nathan Aké hit the crossbar.
